How to Use YouTube Kids for Parents?
YouTube Kids is a kids-only streaming platform. The shows on YouTube Kids can be adjusted to the age of the child. Before using YouTube Kids, the parents need to make some settings.

Here are some tips on how to use YouTube Kids for parents:
1. Creating a YouTube Kids Profile
YouTube Kids allows the parents to create a separate profile for each of their children. Each profile will show different video recommendations, according to the child’s age. Make sure you already have a Google Account before creating a YouTube Kids account. Next, follow the steps below.
- Firstly, open the YouTube Kids app.
- Then, follow the on-screen instructions.
- When prompted, enter your birth year.
- After that, select ‘Sign in‘ to get more parental access.
- And, add your Google Account.
- Please tap ‘Sign in.’
- Also, read the parental consent information for YouTube Kids.
- Please tap the ‘Done‘ button and enter your password.
Now you will be able to start setting up a profile for your child. Usually, the app will give you four age-appropriate viewing options such as:
- Preschool (ages 4 and under)
- Younger (5 – 7 years old)
- Older (8 – 12 years old)
- Approve content yourself.
For the ‘Approve content yourself’ option, your child can only watch videos that you have approved. Also, they do not have the opportunity to search for their favorite videos. After you have selected the Kids option, you will be taken through the core features of YouTube Kids. 2. Opening Parenting Controls
- Firstly, tap the lock icon at the bottom corner of the page.
- After that, enter the code that the app asks for.
- Then, select ‘Settings.’
3. Changing impressions
When you first created your account, you would have filled in the age-appropriate shows for your kids. But if you want to change your kids’ shows, you can use this method.
- At the first step, open Parenting Control.
- After that, tap the ‘Settings‘ menu.
- Then, choose your child’s profile.
- Next, enter the parent password.
- Choose the viewing options; Preschool, Younger, Older, or Approve content yourself).
4. Showing Content You Approve
In this setting, your child can only watch shows that you approve. Also, in this setting, your child will not be able to search for any videos.
- At the first step, open Parenting Control.
- Then, select the menu ‘Settings.’
- After that, select your child’s profile.
- Now, enter the parent password.
- Please tap on ‘Approved content only.’
- On the pop-up menu, click the ‘Getting Started‘ button.
- Afterwards, click the ‘Select.’
- Please tap the ‘+’ icon on any collection, channel, or video you see.
- Lastly, select ‘DONE‘ at the bottom of the screen to exit.
5. Creating a Timer

Also, YouTube Kids allows the parents to set a viewing time limit for their kids. Therefore, when the specified time is over, kids will not be able to watch the videos anymore.
- Firstly, open Parenting Control.
- After that, select the menu ‘Timer.’
- Now, you are able to set the time you wish.
- Please click the ‘Start Timer‘ button.
